The office of Prime Minister has undergone significant change since its establishment in 1721 and it has seen an array of office holders in the near 300 years it has existed. As of December 2019, 53 men and two women have been appointed Prime Minister, serving a total of 77 ministerial terms between them. Some Prime Ministers have gone down in history as major figures, William Pitt The Younger, William Ewart Gladstone, Benjamin Disraeli, David Lloyd George and Winston Churchill among them. Others, including some of the early occupants of the office, have faded into obscurity, and some never really emerged from it. But how good is your knowledge of British Prime Ministers? Have a go at these 20 questions to find out.
